Tom Ford’s beloved husband – fashion journalist Richard Buckley – passed away peacefully at the age of 72 of natural causes at their Los Angeles home on Sunday evening.

The 60-year-old designer-director and their son Alexander John aka ‘Jack’ – who turns 9 this Thursday – were with Richard when he died.

Ford first met Buckley in 1986 at a New York fashion show and they married in 2014, shortly after same-sex marriage was legalized in the United States.

Richard – who underwent surgery for throat cancer in 1989 – is believed to have grown up in the United States, France and Germany before attending the University of Maryland in Munich.

Buckley has worked for publications such as New York Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily, Vanity Fair, Mirabella, Italian Vogue and Vogue Hommes International where he was editor-in-chief.

The taste-making couple also shared residences in London, Richard’s hometown in New York City, and Tom’s hometown in Santa Fe.

Ford was last pictured on September 13 as Honorary President of the Met Gala alongside Adam Mosseri, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, Anna Wintour, Timothée Chalamet and Naomi Osaka.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of CFDA launched his eponymous luxury brand in 2005, after serving as Creative Director of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

Tom has also been acclaimed for writing, producing, and directing the 2009 drama A Single Man and the 2016 psychological thriller Nocturnal Animals.
