Wayne Couzens’ attorney told the Old Bailey this morning that the killer could not watch Sarah Everard’s family in court.
Ms Everard’s parents and sister spoke to Couzens directly at the Old Bailey on Wednesday – her father demanding that his daughter’s murderer watch him as he read a powerful statement.
“I can never forgive you for what you did, for taking Sarah away from us,” Jeremy Everard said.
“You burned our daughter’s body – you tortured us again – so we couldn’t see her again.
“No punishment you will receive will compare to the pain and torture you have inflicted on us. “
Ms Everard’s mother, Susan, said she was “tormented” at the thought of what her daughter had endured.
“It’s unbearable to think about it,” she said. “I am haunted by the horror of this. “
Ms Everard told the court that in the evening when her daughter Sarah was being kidnapped, she let out a “silent cry” saying, “Don’t get in the car, Sarah. Do not believe it. Course! “
“I’m repelled by the thought of Wayne Couzens and what he did to Sarah,” she added.
Ms Everard’s sister, Katie, broke down in tears in court as she called Couzens a “monster.”
“You treated Sarah like she was nothing,” Katie Everard told her sister’s killer.
“You disposed of my sister’s body like it was garbage. Spilled it like it meant nothing.
“My only hope is that she was in shock and didn’t know about the disgusting things being done to her by a monster. ”
