United head to the midweek meeting after a home loss to Villa after Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty for added time.
The game looked set to end without a goal until defender Kortney Hause shot a near-post header past David De Gea in the 88th minute.
This means United start their midweek Champions League fixture with Villarreal after a three-game losing streak in four matches, but United legend Ferdinand, who now works as an expert for BT Sport, backed them up to return to victory.
Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I think they will get a positive result. I think they will win.
“Unai Emery knows the ways to get results. He will make it difficult, but Man United have allowed players to bounce back from a disappointing result this weekend.
“We cannot do without it. It was a bad result and they have to rectify that in the coming games. “
United face some new injury issues ahead of the Champions League draw, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claiming captain Harry Maguire is facing “a few weeks” on the sidelines of a calf injury. Luke Shaw could play a role, having also injured himself in Villa’s loss.
