United rebounded from the disappointment of a midweek defeat to Young Boys in the Champions League to win all three points at London Stadium on Sunday.
But it was only thanks to David de Gea’s penalty against Mark Noble that ensured the victory, already coming from behind to take the lead.
And Solskjaer was less than impressed with United’s work in the defensive third and felt that was an area they needed to tackle to move forward as a team.

“We definitely need to work better defensively,” Solskjaer said after the victory. “In the first half, we were too easy to play.
“We’re going to work on it because there is no respite when you play football. I explained that you cannot rest when you are defending. “
United went with Solskjaer’s favorite double pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay in midfield, with Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood ahead of them.
But the United boss was not happy with his side’s caution when out of possession, especially when Said Benrahma had room at the edge of the box before his deflected shot found its way.
“We fell into a back six [for the goal] and there were too many spaces, ”he added. “We were too late to load the ball. We have already sorted this out and talked about it at halftime. “
Nonetheless, United were finally able to come out of the clash with victory, keeping them level on points with Chelsea and Liverpool.
And Solskjaer was pleased with the way his side reacted after falling behind, with an immediate response from Ronaldo before a late stun from Jesse Lingard ensured their eventual victory.
“It was better in the second half and a great response,” he added. “It was a big thing for me – how do you react when you lose 1-0? “
“It was a very, very good five minutes for us. “
Solskjaer also praised Lingard for the way he reacted to his calamitous back pass against Young Boys, praising the midfielder for his decisive contribution.
“He said sorry after Tuesday and everyone said it wasn’t necessary. It came [today] and was brilliant.
“It was a big goal. I’m so happy for Jesse. Sure, he had a rough night on Tuesday, but he fell apart and worked hard again.
“He was the same bright, positive boy, and what a goal. So happy for him. It was a great pass from Nemanja [Matic] and a good ride from Jesse.
« [It was] a great response to their goal. I thought we played really good football in the first half, but then we have to defend better. “
