As a person who experienced the rise of Nirvana, it was truly a strange time. Hair metal still ruled the rock waves, and Nirvana’s punk-influenced brand of music just wasn’t on the scene at the time. It caught everyone, especially the record directors of the day, completely off guard. It wasn’t long before the grunge movement completely surpassed rock, and Nirvana’s Nevermind is widely credited with launching it.

Of course, like all good things, it wasn’t meant to last. Soon, those same record directors who were completely blinded by public interest in “alternative” rock were signing all the long-haired musicians with a flannel shirt, and the genre completely watered down and the grunge movement went downhill. is quickly finished.

Some of the biggest names, like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and of course, Nirvana, are still recognized for their contributions to rock, and rightly so.
