The blood-soaked baggage was a dead gift.
Chinese police have arrested a former bar manager named Xie Lei on suspicion of murder after trying to jump into a taxi this week with a smelly and bloody suitcase, the South China Morning Post reports.
The taxi driver came out to help the man place the heavy suitcase in the trunk, but quickly became suspicious and called the police.
Xie, 33, from central China’s Shaanxi Province, ran, leaving the suitcase behind.
When authorities opened the luggage, they found the body of a 19-year-old woman. The victim, whose name has not been released, and Lei are said to have worked together at a local bar before, before the suspect resigned in August.
Police in Taihe County in southeast China’s Jiangxi Province said the case was under investigation. It is not known if or how Xie killed the woman or what would have been the motive for her murder.
The victim’s father told Oriental News Today that the 19-year-old was his eldest and had been a migrant worker for many years. She had been in contact with her family days before her murder, the father said.
