READ MORE: Commons LIVE as Sajid Javid reveals government’s winter plan to fight Covid-19
The televised address comes after the Health Secretary unveiled the winter plan to MPs in the Commons earlier today.
Sajid Javid has warned that the UK “must be vigilant” about rate hikes in the coming months to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed.
He presented a “comprehensive five-pillar plan to run the country through the fall and winter” – but with a “plan B” also announced.
The five steps include strengthening pharmaceutical measures such as vaccine deployment, maintaining the NHS Test and Trace, ensuring that the NHS and social care are taken care of, preventing seasonal illness and maintaining border defenses at the middle of new variants.
Plan B contained emergency measures – including the mandatory use of face covers and vaccine passports.
Mr Johnson is expected to further expose the measures to the public, and questions from reporters will follow.
The talk also follows a Downing Street briefing from Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, Dr June Raine and Professor Wei Shen Lim regarding booster vaccinations.
