The Oskaloosa County Sheriff’s Office used drones as part of their extensive search in the woods near Baker, Fla., After a local man thought he might have spotted Mr Laundrie, 23, hiking the area on Monday morning.
The sheriff’s office provided a media update on Tuesday afternoon to say that the search revealed nothing of note.
Sam Bass posted a photo from Monday morning’s meeting near the town of Baker, Fla., About 500 miles from Mr Laundrie’s home in North Port.
“I’m not saying he’s the guy, but the one that was on my CCTV this morning in Baker, Fl fits Brian Laundrie’s description perfectly.
“Authorities have been contacted, but residents of the Northwest Florida area are on the lookout. “
In a statement, the sheriff’s office said, “OCSO has done due diligence in response to this report and is completing an extensive search that has taken place in this area to also include nearby farmland and a drone search. . No one – and nothing – of note has been located.
“There is currently no known connection, past or present, between Laundrie and anyone in this region to follow up. In the meantime, we will remain vigilant and if something new of importance develops, we will share. “
Mr Laundrie has not been seen since leaving his parents’ home last Tuesday and telling them he was going for a hike to the nearby Carlton reserve.
He has since been named a person of interest in the disappearance of his girlfriend Gabby Petito, 22, whose body was reportedly found in Wyoming on Sunday.
Police returned to the 25,000-acre Carlton reservation on Tuesday to search for Mr. Laundrie.
