(Bloomberg) – Advisors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will hold a two-day meeting next week to discuss booster shots for Covid-19 vaccines.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices posted notice of the meeting, September 22-23, on its website on Wednesday. The panel of external experts advises the CDC on the best way to administer the new vaccines.

The Biden administration last month presented plans to start giving booster shots to more Americans on September 20, but the advisory group meeting schedule likely means efforts will be delayed by at least a few days. . Booster shots are available in emergencies for some people with weakened immune systems.

A separate group of external advisers from the Food and Drug Administration are scheduled to deliberate Friday on a request from Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE for a third-dose booster for the companies’ Covid vaccine, currently administered in two doses.

No meeting agenda was released, and it was not clear whether ACIP would focus on the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or discuss booster injections more broadly. Moderna Inc. is also seeking FDA clearance for a booster dose for its Covid shot.
