The Met Gala returned Monday evening with a big trendy bang. The memes, of course, were almost as good as the wild celebrity herself. Here are some of our favorite choices …

When New York Congressman and Progressive Leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wore a dress with “Tax the Rich” written on the back, she either forgot or was incredibly aware of one of the cardinal rules of online existence: never give the Internet a blank canvas to work on.

Almost immediately, people began to replace the text “taxing the rich” with their own.

Some people on GameSpot have gone too far.

I think this sartorial meme is going to be a permanent mainstay of our lives online for a long time to come.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye as dementors?

There’s fashion, and then there’s, uh, what Kim Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West wore on Monday night. Both covered themselves in black, with Kardashian wearing a Balenciaga bodysuit and West in what appeared to be a black tracksuit. The two were quickly compared to everything from Harry Potter’s horrific dementor prison guards of fame to the alien queen of Aliens to Darth Vader himself.

One person pointed out that the outfits were so hidden that anyone could be in them.

“I bet it’s not even Kim Kardashian,” the tweet read. “Kim is at home in his pajamas eating pizza. ”

Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend did what?

Singer Nicki Minaj was not at the Met Gala, but she tweeted about the event’s requirement that attendees be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“They want you to get the Met shot,” she said, “if I get the shot, it won’t be for the Met. This will be after I have done enough research. I’m working on it now. While waiting for my loves, be careful. Wear the mask with 2 strings that tighten your head and face. Not so cowardly. ”

Minaj then tweeted that she was going to get the vaccine, writing: “A lot of countries won’t let people work without the vaccine. I would definitely recommend them to get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I am sure I will also be vaccinated because I have to go on tour etc. ”

But it was another tweet from Minaj that really lit up Twitter. “My cousin in Trinidad will not receive the vaccine because his friend received it and has become impotent,” Minaj said. “His testicles became swollen. Her friend was a few weeks away from the wedding, now the girl has called off the wedding. ”

Fans were quick to point out to Minaj that the vaccine doesn’t cause impotence (although the coronavirus can), but they couldn’t resist the jokes either.

“Your cousin’s friend probably just got an STD, but please continue,” one person said.

Megan Rapinoe’s red, white and blue look

Football star Megan Rapinoe lived up to the America theme, wearing a red, white and blue pantsuit and wearing a matching clutch bag that reads “IN GAY WE TRUST”.

” At last. Someone got the mission, ”wrote one Twitter user.

Kim Petras s’amuse

Singer Kim Petras took to the saddle for the event, sporting a 3D ponytail bodice and a long braided hairpiece that could pass for a ponytail.

Billie Eilish takes a stand against fur

Billie Eilish wore a poufy pink Oscar de la Renta dress with a 15 foot train. Eilish has never worn de la Renta before and only agreed to do so if the brand agreed to stop using fur. The singer told The New York Times that she found it “shocking that wearing fur is not completely banned at this point in 2021,” adding that she was “honored to have been a catalyst and to have been heard on this issue ”.

At 19, Eilish is the youngest co-chair of the event.

Dan Levy cartography

Actor Dan Levy wore a printed outfit with gigantic puffed sleeves and an image of two men kissing.

“Here’s what it feels like to prepare,” writer Rachel Syme tweeted.

Levy’s outfit sparked Seinfeld’s jokes, with one Twitter user noting, “That’s a puffy shirt! In reference to the unfortunate fashion piece Jerry Seinfeld wore in one episode.

And there were also more serious comments. E! confirmed that Levy’s look pays homage to the late David Wojnarowicz, an American artist who died of AIDS in 1992.

“Love the risk Levy took and brought San Francisco to # MetGala2021,” one fan wrote.

Sister Pete Davidson

SNL comic Pete Davidson wore a black and white robe, joking that he was dressed as a ‘slutty nun’, but a Twitter user joked that he looked more like one of the three mice. blind from the old rhyme.

Davidson told E! that her jewelry was specially designed to honor her late father, Scott Davidson, a firefighter who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks, and to honor others who died that day.

Iman goes for gold

Model Iman went for the opposite look of the Kardashian-West duo, instantly recognizable in a stunning gold dress with an impressive headpiece.

“Everyone’s going home,” wrote one Twitter user, stating that Iman was the fashion winner of the evening. “Spin the limo and go get drive-thru.” ”

Baby Love

Musician Frank Ocean drew less attention to what he wore and more to what he wore: a green, animatronic baby.

O say can you see

Los Angeles Lakers star Russell Westbrook wore the American theme in his starry hair.
