A two-year-old girl has died after falling from a pony during a hunt in North Yorkshire, according to ITV Tyne Tees.The toddler was reported to be riding a pony with members of The Bedale Hunt on Wednesday when she fell. Emergency services were called to the scene, but the girl died of her injuries.Yorkshire Air Ambulance confirmed it had attended the scene of the crash.Bedale Hunt officials said the members were “completely devastated but pulling themselves together” for the girl’s family.In a statement, a spokesperson for the hunt said: “We can confirm that a tragic accident occurred on Wednesday September 15 when a two-year-old girl fell from her pony and subsequently lost her life. .“As a community we are all completely devastated, but we come together to support the family involved. Our sincere condolences go out to all affected and we urge everyone to respect family privacy during this very trying time. “
In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said:
“Police are writing a report on behalf of the coroner following the tragic death of a two-year-old girl who was involved in a land riding incident in Kirkby Fleetham, near Northallerton.
It happened around 8 a.m. on Wednesday (September 15, 2021) and the girl died in hospital in the early hours of Thursday.
The girl’s family is receiving specialist support while the incident is being investigated.
Police are calling for family privacy to be respected at this very difficult time. “
