New Delhi: Two people were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell, two days after a jailed gangster and his two attackers were killed in a shootout inside a Delhi courtroom.
The arrested men are Umang and Vinay, police sources said. The two defendants are residents of Haiderpur, in northwest Delhi.
The men, sources said, were arrested based on CCTV footage of door number 4 of Rohini court in north Delhi, where the shooting took place.
On the day of the attack, Umang and the two shooters reached a shopping center in Sector 9 of Rohini where they all dressed up as lawyers, the sources said.
Arriving at court, Umang, according to the plan, had to wait in the car, sources said. The shooters were to finish the job and escape in the waiting car, they added.
As the plan derailed and the shooters were killed, Umang fled, they said.
On Friday, armed men disguised as lawyers, present in court, shot dead gangster Jitender Gogi three times. Special forces personnel escorting the gangster then retaliated, killing both attackers instantly.
In the videos, gunshots are heard in court and police and lawyers are seen in a stampede into the court building.
The shooting was the result of a years-long rivalry between Jitender Gogi’s gang and rival “Tillu gang”, police said.
“Two men disguised as lawyers opened fire on Jitender Gogi inside the courthouse. It was then that the police responded and killed these two attackers. This is not a gang war, ”Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana told NDTV.
“The police acted quickly and killed the two attackers. A total of three died, including Gogi, ”Mr. Asthana said.
More than 25 people have died over the years in clashes between the two gangs, police said.
