American restaurant Wendy’s is slated to open in Essex as part of its UK expansion.
The fast food chain, which specializes in burgers and fried foods, has confirmed its opening in Romford as well as Croydon and Oxford by the end of next year.

These three restaurants are expected to open by the end of the year with a second store in Stratford, east London on August 27, reports The Mirror.

Wendy’s has marked its return to the UK for 21 years, since it closed its last UK store in 1999 when they opened a restaurant in Reading in June.

Essex residents can expect American fan favorites of the brand, including the Baconator, Dave’s Single, Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the iconic Frosty dessert, as well as UK exclusives – the Vegetarian Stack, the vegetarian bites and the vegetarian avocado salad.

Wendy’s, which is the third largest burger chain in the world after McDonald’s and Burger King, already has 6,700 outlets in 30 countries around the world.

The bosses first revealed that the company was returning to British shores at the end of 2019, when it announced to investors that it would open its first outlets within 12 to 18 months.

Wendy’s will challenge other US imports like Five Guys and Shake Shack which have emerged in the UK over the past decade.

The restaurant is actively looking for people to become franchise owners – they are basically tenants who can run the restaurants on the main street.

A spokesperson for Wendy’s previously said: “I can confirm that Wendy’s will be opening in the UK in the first half of this year.

“Our first location will be in Reading and I can also confirm that we will be opening a restaurant in Oxford.

“We are also exploring other opportunities in the London area.

“The brand is excited to enter the UK with restaurants owned and operated by the company this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the UK. “
