Sheffield United have finalized the loan signing of Liverpool defender Ben Davies, who could soon be joined at Bramall Lane by two other players.

The 26-year-old was an emergency signing for the Reds during the January transfer window. Jurgen Klopp needed defensive reinforcements due to high-profile injuries. Virgile van Dijk and Joel Matip were ruled out for the remainder of the season and the German needed help.

It was thought that he would go for a renowned player and the movement for Davies came out of nowhere. He had played 145 times for Preston and was suddenly dumped at Anfield.

But the dream move turned out to be a false dawn as he has yet to kick a ball for the Merseysiders. The center-half has become the first signing for Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Championship club said on its official website: “Ben Davies from Liverpool arrives at Bramall Lane on a one-season contract which will see him stay at S2 for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign and strengthen the defensive options of United in the future. “

History stacked against Man City and Pep Guardiola after Day 1 loss

Davies also had loan spells at York, Tranmere, Southport, Newport and Fleetwood. A decent performance in South Yorkshire could make the move permanent as Liverpool are unlikely to be needed.

Davies one of United’s three targets

With Davies now on board, Jokanovic can focus on other targets. Amad Diallo appears to be in excess of Manchester United’s demands.

The 19-year-old is expected to be on loan in order to gain first-team experience. The Ivorian winger joined the Red Devils at the start of the year after reaching a deal last October.

The 19-year-old’s move cost United an upfront fee of £ 19million. However, this could be almost doubled after the add-ons. The Ivorian international made his Premier League debut in May, starting with a 2-1 loss to Leicester City.

But the arrival of Jadon Sancho means he’s likely to see little action at Old Trafford. Jokanovic is keen to wear red and white stripes for 2021-2022 and is hoping for a loan deal soon.

And the Serbian tactician aims for a treble on loan as ex-Leeds midfielder Ronaldo Vieira is on the radar, according to The sun. He has been in the books of Sampdoria since the summer of 2018.

The 23-year-old has made 44 appearances for the club but was loaned to Hellas Verona last season. It didn’t work as playing time was limited and a return to Yorkshire could be considered.
