In a phone call Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Chapek called the film “an interesting experience” for the company’s future theatrical releases.

The actor took to social media Saturday to call Disney CEO Bob Chapek for his comments on the MCU’s latest installment, writing, “We’re not an experiment. “

We are not an experience. We are the underdog; the underestimated. We are the ceiling breakers. We are the celebration of the culture and the joy that will endure after a difficult year. We are the surprise. I am fired to make history on September 3; JOIN US.

In a year of increasing anti-Asian hate crimes, Liu has spoken out on protecting Asian and Asian-American communities. He also spoke about the behind-the-scenes racism that abruptly ended the show. Kim’s convenience, on which he played from 2016 to 2021.

It all started Thursday, when Chapek was on a quarterly earnings conference call. During the conversation, he confirmed that Disney would go ahead with an exclusive theatrical release for Shang-Chi.

So that means the film won’t be available on Disney + Premier Access until it ends in theaters – which will be just after 45 days (vs. 90 traditional days in Hollywood).

It’s different from this year’s approach Black Widow – which is released in theaters and on the streaming service simultaneously. As we all know, this ruling sparked a lawsuit led by Scarlett Johansson for loss of earnings.

The reasoning for the exclusive theatrical release, Chapek said, is “recent signs of increased confidence in cinema.”

He continued to describe Shang-Chi as an “interesting experiment” for Disney to test the new approach to film releases.

According to Variety, he added that the delayed Disney + debut would provide the studio with “another data point” to refine future release strategies. But Chapek admitted the film “was intended to be in a much healthier theatrical environment” as the approach to its release was decided before the increase in coronavirus cases led by the Delta variant.

And Liu wasn’t there for that. He continued in his tweet: “We are the underdog; the underestimated. We are the ceiling breakers. We are the celebration of the culture and the joy that will endure after a difficult year. We are the surprise. I’m screwed to make history on September 3; Join us. “
