The Red Devils have already signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and the arrival of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid seems imminent after passing a medical exam this week.
Speaking on The Overlap Live Fan Debate, Keane said he was impressed with his former club’s work in the transfer market so far.
“I think the two signings they’ve made are obviously fantastic, there’s no question about the quality they got,” Keane said.
“But I’m really worried about the middle of the park – we can get to the goalkeeper in a minute and I’m still not convinced by the right-back (Aaron Wan-Bissaka) – but the signings have been good. “
While United have spent a lot to land Sancho and Varane, Keane said he believes there may yet be another big name to walk through the door.
“I still have a feeling United are going to be pulling something out of the bag over the next few weeks,” he said. “I still think they need someone in the middle of the park. “
Gary Neville, who was also on the panel, asked Keane if he thinks United need to sign a midfielder. “I think they have to put one on, yeah,” was the Irishman’s response.
Although United have added class in defense and attack, some fans are still concerned about defensive midfielder options.
United have been linked with a possible decision by West Ham United’s Declan Rice to step up his midfield options, although Hammers manager David Moyes has ruled out key players leaving in the current window.
