Raphael Varane: Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says World Cup winner can take club to the next level

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said new signing Raphael Varane has the credentials to take the club to the next level and help win major trophies at Old Trafford.

The French center-back received a magnificent standing ovation as he was unveiled to fans ahead of United’s 5-1 Premier League win over Leeds, and Solskjaer says he could make his Southampton debut, live on Sky Sports.

Solskjaer admitted that he had been impressed with the former Real Madrid star since joining and that his experience could play a central role in helping the team win the silverware.

Sunday August 22 1:00 p.m.

Kick-off at 2:00 p.m.

“He certainly has all the credentials and the quality to do it,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “He’s impressed me since he’s been here.

“He wants to know more about our style of play. He works hard, he wants to improve his physical condition.

“It’s been a long time since he played the Euro. He’s very meticulous, he’s such a professional.

“You can see his honors, his trophies – but you also look at him and what he’s done off the pitch.

“There aren’t a lot of issues there, so for a manager I’m very impressed with him. “

The Norwegian said Varane and United’s other summer signing Jadon Sancho could start when they travel to St. Mary’s as the duo have now had time to strengthen their fitness with their new teammates.

When asked if the pair were fit enough to feature early on, Solskjaer said: “Yeah, I think so.

“Of course I was worried before Leeds with the lack of minutes a few had, but we managed to get away with adrenaline rush.

Gary Neville believes that Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane’s imminent arrival at Manchester United is good news for the club.

“The first two games you play in a season, you get the adrenaline pumping, no matter how many games you played in the preseason.

“The clue is to be consistent. Not to have all the adrenaline in the first or the first two. So we need a foundation.

“They might start, they might not start – it’s a long season. “

Sancho came off the bench to make his debut against Leeds following his £ 73million transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Solskjaer believes the England striker is a perfect fit for his squad and says he has settled in quickly since returning to Manchester.

The United boss said: “For me he fits us like a glove. He is creative, he is not afraid.

“He has quality, he is hardworking, humble. He has all the attributes to be successful at Man United.

“He’s very young. Sometimes you think wow – all the experience he’s got on his young shoulders. It will only get better. “
