Pedestrian crossing Highway 1 in Burnaby hit, killed – .

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – One person has died after mounted police said they were struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 1 in Burnaby on Wednesday morning.

RCMP said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the freeway just after 8 a.m. when he was struck in the westbound HOV lane near the Grandview Freeway exit.

“The BC Highway Patrol conducted the investigation which is in its early stages,” read a statement.

The incident forced the closure of two westbound lanes, with significant delays reported.

Police said a second vehicle that ran into the car that struck the pedestrian left the scene before police arrived. Investigators are looking for more information on this vehicle.
