Over 3,000 cases in one day, setting new wave record – .

A total of 3,161 people tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday, including 217 in critical condition, according to information from the Ministry of Health.

The number of new cases sets a record for the number of positive COVID tests in a day under the new wave of cases.

Also on Monday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said “about 55,000 people have been vaccinated today with the third dose – which is almost twice as many as yesterday, but still not enough”, said Hebrew media reported. The Prime Minister is also considering imposing new lockdowns during the September vacation.

He went on to say that Israel is “in a competition between vaccines and epidemics, between an open country and more restrictions”.

Since Friday, nearly 100,000 people aged 60 and over have been vaccinated with the supplemental vaccine. It has already been reported that the growing number of cases could prompt the Department of Health to recommend that ministers reintroduce the Green Pass system that was used earlier this year. Rossella Tercatin contributed to this report.
