Netflix today confirmed that Charlize Theron and the rest of the main cast of The old guard will meet for a sequel to the conversation starter action film. The first film, based on the comic book of the same name and written by Greg Rucka and drawn by Leandro Fernández, was released on Netflix in the summer of 2020.
Netflix hasn’t given a release date for the sequel, but is switching directors, from Gina Prince-Bythewood to Victoria Mahoney (second unit director on Star Wars : Épisode IX – L’Ascension de Skywalker). Prince-Bythewood will stay on to produce.
As the first film followed the comic, a sequel is likely to follow the story of The old guard: strength multiplied, pitting Andromache “Andy” the Scythian (Theron) and his crew of quasi-immortal warriors (KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli) against his former lover Quynh (Van Veronica Ngo), an immortal twisted by the centuries that she spent buried alive at sea. Chiwetel Ejiofor will also reprise her role as Copley, the group’s mortal fixer.
