Michaela Strachan’s two dogs are recovering after being poisoned by crystal meth during a walk in Cape Town.

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, Springwatch presenter Michaela revealed that her dogs Rio and Timmy began to suffer from seizures after apparently eating human feces containing methamphetamine, better known as crystal meth.

The host posted a photo of the two dogs bundled up in blankets and lying on the ground, and wrote: “The night has been rough. After walking my dogs in a ruined fort on the mountain yesterday, a few hours later, they both seemed to be having fits and couldn’t stand.

“We rushed them to the vet and she recognized the symptoms as an overdose of a drug called Tik, Crystal meth, apparently the ruined fort is where a lot of homeless people hang out and take tik, so the dogs must have eaten human poo with tik in it!

“Extraordinarily, the vet has already encountered the problem. I spent the night treating them during their hectic journeys as they shivered, trembled, vomited and pissed. Confused, disoriented, paranoid and distant awakening. Fortunately, they seem to have gone through the worst this morning. Seriously, you couldn’t invent yourself! ‘

Fans shared their shock and good wishes for the doggies, with a comment: “It’s awful, it never occurred to me that something like this could happen. I’m so sorry, I hope they have been through the worst and have no consequences.

Another person wrote: ‘Ah no bless them, it’s a trial and a half. Hopefully they’ll get over the rain in no time.

Michaela later shared a video of Rio and Timmy running on the beach, proving they were back to good health.

The 55-year-old wrote: “Rio and Timmy on the beach and back to themselves. Wagging tails, wet noses, sticking out tongues and hunting for algae. Apparently, nothing worse for their appearance in Breaking Bad!

‘Thank you for all your comments and support. Strange experience !! ‘

The use of crystal meth, known locally as tik, exploded in Cape Town in 2008 and remains a problem, with South Africa being home to the largest and most established meth consumer market in East and Southern Africa. .

The highly addictive drug can cause psychosis, breakdown of skeletal muscles, seizures and bleeding in the brain.

The famed AMC drama Breaking Bad focused on a chemistry teacher, Walter White, who begins producing methamphetamine to secure his family’s financial future after being diagnosed with cancer.

Former Countryfile host Michaela lives in Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, with her longtime partner Nick Chevallier, their 15-year-old son Oliver and their two dogs, who moved in 2002.

Rio and Timmy are both rescue dogs, and Michaela has once criticized the “designer dog” trend.

Speaking to the Paw Post, the star said, “I just think it’s really sad the way purebred dogs are doing. Let people breed dogs that can’t even breathe without surgery. It’s completely crazy and crazy. A lot of people have a dog as an accessory and so they may not know how to take care of it properly. Or they’ve done all the reading on what they want their dog to look like, but maybe not how to properly care for a dog. I mean, keep him healthy and well.

“Whereas when you get a dog from a dog house and it’s a special sidewalk, you don’t know what it’s going to become. But as long as he has a face that looks like a dog, he’s fine.
