Michael Keaton starred as Bruce Wayne / Batman in the 1989 Tim Burton movie, Batman, who changed the trajectory of the superhero genre. It turns out that Keaton watched Batman in its entirety so never saw a single comic-movie based ever again.
“After the first Batman, I’m not sure I’ve seen a [comic book] movie, ”said Keaton in an interview with The Hollywood reporter.
The actor has no particular reason other than just being too busy to sit and watch the mountain of superhero movies made since 1989. “I never did. So you talk to a guy who was not in the air of the times of everyone ”, the Bird man the actor said. “When I went to do Marvel things in Atlanta… It’s an entire city dedicated to Marvel… They’ll make Marvel movies forever. I’ll be dead, and they’ll still make Marvel movies.
Keaton recently reprized his role as vulture for Marvel’s 2022 feature film Morbius, where his lack of knowledge about the MCU caught up with him. “I nod like I know what they’re talking about. I’m going, ‘Uh-huh.’ And I’m like, “You might as well explain quantum physics to me right now.” All I know is I just know my guy. And I know the basics, ”said Keaton. “So finally they were looking at me and they just started laughing. They said, “You don’t know what we’re talking about, do you? I said, ‘No, I don’t know, no idea what you’re talking about.’ “
In addition to playing Vulture, Keaton recently disguised himself as Batman for At Andy Muschietti Flash with Ezra Miller, which allowed him to see if he still had the chops needed to dominate the character over 30 years later. “Frankly, deep in my head I always thought, ‘I bet I could go back and nail that motherfucker,’” Keaton explained. He walked away from the superhero franchise when he didn’t like the script for Joel Schumacher’s 1995 film Batman forever. “And so I thought, ‘Well, now that they’re asking me, let me see if I can do it.’ “
Flash will not only bring back Keaton’s Batman version, but also of Ben Affleck, in the breathtaking film based on the Breaking point comic books. However, it took more than a few readings for Keaton to fully understand the multiverse aspect of the film. “I must have read it more than three times to say to myself ‘Wait, how does that work?’Keaton recalls.
“They must have explained it to me several times. By the way, I’m not arrogant, I hope, about this. I don’t say it like, ‘I’m too groovy.’ I am stupid. There are a lot of things I don’t know. And so, I don’t know, I just figured it out, but it was different, ”Keaton added.. “What’s really interesting is how much I have [Batman] when I went back and did it. I understand this on a whole new level now. I totally respect him. I respect what people are trying to do.
Flash is scheduled for the first time in November 2022.
