Doncic was eligible to sign the extension after being an All-NBA first-team selection for the past two seasons.
A contingent of franchise executives landed in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Monday to officially present the contract to Doncic and agent Bill Duffy, including Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, general manager Nico Harrison, trainer Jason Kidd , Assistant General Manager Michael Finley, Special Advisor Dirk Nowitzki and Director of Player Health and Performance Casey Smith.
Doncic will sign the contract in Slovenia on Tuesday and hold a press conference there.
“Today is a dream come true,” Doncic told ESPN in a statement. “Basketball has given me so much and taken me to so many amazing places. I am honored and excited to stay in Dallas as a member of the Mavericks and appreciate the support of my fans.
“Along with this new contract, I am also happy to announce that I am stepping up my efforts and focusing on expanding the Luka Dončić Foundation. home country of Slovenia, as well as the communities of North Texas.
“I am happy to share in partnership with 2K Foundations, we will soon unveil two basketball courts here in Slovenia. We are renovating the grounds of my childhood where I learned and practiced the game. The opportunity for children to play on the same grounds and to pursue the same dreams that I had is something that fascinates me. “
