Lionel Messi set to sign for PSG after French giants offer sensational two-year deal – .

Paris Saint-Germain will offer Lionel Messi a two-year deal in what could be the most sensational transfer deal in history.

Talks started late Thursday night – hours after Barcelona announced Messi’s departure after 21 years with the Spanish giants.

A meeting is now scheduled for Saturday between the father and the representative of Messi Jorge and the hierarchy of PSG with a detailed proposal that must be put forward. Remarkably, the 34-year-old, who is a free agent nonetheless, is now expected to sign.

PSG had quickly distanced themselves from suggestions after Messi announced that he would sign the Argentine – given the club are in financial deficit – but since then they have calculated the numbers and decided they can make it work a deal. They were also encouraged by how positive Messi is to join them. At the same time, the players’ camp appreciated the speed of the response from PSG and in particular because of the constraints of the UEFA financial fair play rules in which they operate.

If PSG signs Messi, it will delight his former Barcelona teammate Neymar – who has been pushing to sign the world’s best player and current Ballon D’Or holder – but will raise further question marks about the future. of Kylian Mbappe who is just a year older on his contract but has so far resisted attempts for him to extend his contract.

PSG’s priority had been to persuade Mbappe to sign, but Messi’s sudden availability – and with Manchester City’s withdrawal from the deal – made them wonder if they could make the move work financially.
