A 14-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with what police call serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle.

Kelowna RCMP are asking motorists to avoid the 1400 block of KLO Road and take an alternate route after the collision.

Just after noon on August 2, Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle at a crosswalk in the 1400 block of KLO Road.

The pedestrian, a 14-year-old boy, was rushed to hospital by British Columbia Emergency Health Services with what are believed to be serious and potentially fatal injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The RCMP are trying to determine the cause of the collision.

Due to the severity of this collision, both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of KLO Road are closed as part of the investigation.

The duration of this closure is currently unknown.

If you have witnessed this collision, or have a dash cam or surveillance video, please contact the Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300 and reference case number 2021-49436.
