Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa – who became part of the LGBTQ community in January – will make history as the first “Dancing With the Stars” contestant to be paired with a same-sex partner, ABC reported in a social media post promote the show’s 30th season.
“I’m so excited to be a part of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 30 and dancing with a girl,” Siwa, 18, said in the promo clip. “I think it’s so cool. “
JoJo’s partner will be announced during the show’s season premiere.
The American series will follow in the footsteps of its British counterpart, “Strictly Come Dancing,” which in 2020 saw Olympic boxer Nicola Adams matched with a woman at her request, the BBC reported at the time.
Siwa was part of the LGBTQ community earlier this year, but was careful not to label herself too specifically.
“It’s like, I want to understand it. I like “queer,” she told People in April. “Technically, I would say I’m pansexual because that’s how I’ve always been my whole life… just like, my human is my human. “
The “Dance Moms” alum then opened up to Demi Lovato – who came out as a non-binary in May – about his trip, telling the singer that they were largely responsible for the “gay awakening. From Siwa.
“Do you remember your dancer? Her name is JoJo Gomez and you did ‘Cool for the Summer’ together, ”Siwa told Lovato, 28, in an episode of the“ 4D with Demi Lovato ”podcast.
“I remember seeing that and being a little too interested,” she explained.
Siwa and his girlfriend, Kylie Prew, have been spotted enjoying several dates since they met. They’ve been dating for just under seven months.
