Jay-Z Applies For Sports Betting License In New York State – .

TMZ has learned that Jay’s name was on one of the applications submitted to the NY Gaming Commission seeking approval for an online sports betting license. Sources with first-hand knowledge tell us he’s teaming up with his partner mate Sixers Michel Rubin to form Fanatics Sportsbook, and they partnered up with Kambi… a company that makes software used for online sports betting.

Jay and Rubin’s group faces stiff competition… including companies like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook and WynnBET.

We’re told that New York State will endorse at least 2 of the 6 groups, and it’s possible Jay-Z is the secret weapon that puts his group on top. Not only is he the most prominent public figure applying for a license, he is the only black candidate. While other companies may have black employees or executives, they are not the actual licensees… as Jay would be.

You’d think the guy who rapped on his “Empire State of Mind” would at least have a head start in his home country – but there’s probably a lot of politics involved as well. ‘in December to make the call.

Sports betting grossed around $ 1.55 billion nationwide last year, so it’s easy to see why Jay and Rubin want to get in on the action. Our sources say their Fanatics Sportsbook will be headquartered in New York City, and Jay is already planning to hire a diverse staff – based on race and gender – as he did with Roc Nation.

BTW, Jay-Z previously held gaming licenses in Nevada and New Jersey when his 40/40 clubs were open in Vegas and Atlantic City, but he closed them many years ago.
