Plans for this year’s I’m A Celebrity are on hold after a big star reportedly stepped down at the last minute after producers were forced to move from Australia to Wales.

It comes after The Mirror revealed that the Oz camp was canceled at the last minute because it proved “too difficult” to film there with regulations during the coronavirus pandemic.

The series, which premieres in November, will return to Gwrych Castle, which successfully became the second home of the series last year.

Returning to the UK to film has proven too difficult for one celebrity, who is said to have stepped down, while others may follow suit.

A source told The Sun: “A popular star immediately gave up.

Ant and Dec won’t be hosting I’m A Celeb from Australia this year

“The bosses are still in talks with many celebrities to participate and are confident that will not put people off given the success of the last year. “

They continued that some stars wouldn’t find “the rough” in wet Wales as much fun as doing it in the Australian jungle.

The insider added, “Luckily for the bosses, those who signed the contracts are still on board. And bosses still have plenty of time to pull out all the stops when it comes to reserving major talent. “

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.

It comes after a source confirmed to the Mirror that the hit ITV series will be back in the UK this year.

They revealed: “The logistics involved in trying to get the entire production team as well as the celebrities and presenters and all the families halfway around the world amid the ongoing Covid travel restrictions have turned out to be true. too difficult this year.

“The show will be in Wales again and it will be great, just like last year. There’s a lot of humor to be done I’m a celebrity from a spooky castle at a dark and humid time of year on the Welsh coast. It will be a hoot.

The jungle camp will be abandoned for another year

The source continued, “We have made this decision in the last few hours and it is not something we do lightly as there are a lot of people involved.

“But if you look at the situation in Australia right now, there are states that are stranded or with curfews, it’s hard to imagine going out there to do the show.

“The current situation there is not good and it looks like we have to make a decision and so we are going back to Wales. We were welcomed there with open arms last year and it was a great series.

The stars reportedly unwilling to make a stint on the UK show

“The challenge now will be to make it bigger and better than last year. We are still trying to do this with Im A Celebrity and last time we only had 10 weeks to transform the castle and we had never been there before.

“This year we have a lot more time, more than three months, and we know the castle and what we are working with so that we can really transform it before the celebrities arrive.

Celebrities will sleep in the Welsh Castle this year

“The show was a big hit in Wales last year and we want to build on that this year. “

ITV subsequently confirmed the news in an official statement.

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, said: “We can confirm today that we will be returning to Wales for the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! We have always said that we have contingencies in place for the series if the covid situation continues to bring uncertainty, and after a very successful run to the castle last year, we are excited to be able to return. I have no doubt that the production team will produce another extremely entertaining series.
