Meghan Markle’s estranged father revealed in a touching interview that he sent her roses for her 40th birthday in her latest attempts to rebuild their broken relationship.
Retired Hollywood lighting director Thomas, 77, who lives 70 miles from the Sussex mansion, has not spoken to the Duchess of Sussex since she married Prince Harry ago three years.
Speaking to Dan Wootton of GB News on The Big Question, Thomas explained that his latest attempts to rekindle a relationship with his daughter resulted in him sending her a floral tribute on his 40th birthday.
Thomas told Dan Wootton he sent him a bouquet of red roses, with two yellow roses in the middle signifying his two grandchildren whom he had yet to meet, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.
“I wished him a happy birthday and better days ahead, but had no response,” Thomas said.
Thomas Markle (right), 77, said he simply wished Meghan ‘a happy birthday and better days ahead’, but has yet to receive a response from her.
Mr Markle, who has never met Harry or his grandchildren, previously told reporters he remained “puzzled” as to why their “good relationship” was broken.
Mr Markle has had a strained relationship with his daughter since the royal wedding, before which he made a deal with a paparazzi photographer to stage photos of him.
He then withdrew from Meghan’s walk down the aisle at the ceremony after suffering a heart attack, with Prince Charles taking his place.
Speaking to Dan Wootton on The Big Question, he became emotional as he spoke of hoping to someday hold his two grandchildren for the first time.
Thomas also largely blamed Prince Harry for the acrimonious breakdown in communication between him and Meghan.

Referring to the explosive interview with couple Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, Thomas opened up about the rift that has grown between him and his daughter.
Meghan later told Oprah that her father had “betrayed” her and that she “struggled to come to terms” with him. The relationship grew increasingly strained as Mr Markle continued to speak to reporters and the paparazzi.
Speaking on GB News, Mr Markle said: ‘I mainly blame Harry for this. Harry has this saying: if you watch the paparazzi, you are done.
“I’m surprised Harry never bothered to come visit me or ask for my daughter’s hand in marriage.”
“I was lying in the hospital, talking to them from the hospital, telling them that I couldn’t come to the wedding and that they haven’t spoken to me since.
“You are a parent and your child is in the hospital, don’t you worry if he lives or dies? They do not respond or respond in any way.
‘She is [Meghan] changed, not the girl I knew. My daughter was a much more loving person than she is now.

But Thomas was also quick to talk about his two grandchildren whom he still hopes for a meeting one day and reserved a special praise for Lili’s name.
‘I call her Lili, she’s my Lili. It’s the perfect name for her. But, I don’t think Lilibet is necessary, Lili is the perfect name.
– I would like to see her, I would like to see her.
“I want to hold her, same with Archie.” ”
Mr Markle has previously threatened to sue his estranged daughter in order to see her grandchildren.
But with his health continuing to deteriorate, Thomas said he feared he would never meet Archie, 2, or baby Lilibet, born on June 4.
Speaking at his home in Rosarito, Mexico, 70 miles from the Sussexes’ LA mansion, he said: “We shouldn’t be punishing [Lili] for Meghan and Harry’s bad behavior.
‘Archie and Lili are young children. This is not politics. They are not pawns. They are not part of the game. And they are also royals and have the same rights as any other royal.
“… I will be asking the California courts for the right to see my grandchildren in the very near future,” he added.
Speaking on GB News, Thomas also agreed with Piers Morgan’s remarkable explosion on Good Morning Britain earlier this year, in which the outspoken TV presenter accused Meghan of “outright lies”.
He explained, “She lied, she has been lying for years… lying about the Archbishop, how can you lie about the Archbishop?
“Her lies are so obvious I don’t know why she is telling them. “
When asked by Wootton if Meghan had the ability to lie in her youth, Thomas denied this.
‘Non [she did not]. It’s new, it’s since Harry. Harry is the influence here.
“I don’t know if he or she is behind this, but I really think Harry and probably the ‘soho friends’ changed him for the wrong way, not for the good. “
He also dismissed any idea that his daughter could ever run for President of the United States of America, and joked that Oprah would “push her out of the way anyway.”
“I think it’s a joke, from start to finish, a complete joke,” he told Mr Wootton.
“I don’t think she has the ambition to be mayor… governor or president. I don’t think it’s in his head at all.
“Oprah would push her out of the way anyway!” ”
Thomas also described Meghan and Harry’s action, in particular the effect it might have on the Queen, as ‘unforgivable’.
“Meghan and Harry are both attacking the royal family.
“What they are doing to the Queen is unforgivable. It’s embarrassing that they are doing this.
‘Harry says he’s recovering from his mental illness is a joke. You don’t spend three hours talking about it on television, you talk quietly with a psychiatrist.
