“Gold Medal Jay” – .

Despite all the whispers and complaints about USA Basketball’s roster and chemistry, the Americans ultimately prevailed. A fourth straight gold medal awaited the United States Men’s National Team after beating France 87-82 on Friday in Tokyo for revenge in the process.

As Kevin Durant solidified his Olympic legacy – his third gold to accompany his all-time record for men’s Olympic goals in the United States – the vast majority of players saw their first gold hardware. That included the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, who was quick to celebrate on Twitter after the win.

“St. Louis in Tokyo…” Tatum wrote on Twitter. “What to smile about!” ‘Gold Medal Jay’ when you see me please! “

Tatum was not a starter during the Olympics, coming off the bench. But he was crucial in a few renowned performances. While Tatum didn’t run much in the first half of many games, US coach Gregg Popovich unleashed the Celtics star in the fourth quarter. It was then that Tatum entered his job.

As France prepared for a comeback, Team USA needed all 19 points and seven rebounds from Tatum. He played 21 minutes and was a plus-12, the team’s highest.

The victory ended Tatum and first-year Cs coach Ime Udoka’s time with USA Basketball. It was certainly a tumultuous race at times, including three losses, but the Americans managed to win the gold medal.

The next step for the Celtics will be camp and then the start of the season. Perhaps there was some extra chemistry added to the result after Udoka and Tatum spent several weeks in Japan.
