Speaking recently on SiriusXM the Jess Caglé Spectacle, the 34-year-old actor said the violent, intense and emotional “nature” of the show “directly” shattered him in reality.
“I experienced mental health problems after Thrones, and at the end of Thrones, to be honest, ”Harington told Cagle. “I think it was directly down to the nature of the show and what I had been doing for years. “
Harington said he made the decision to take a break after Game of Thrones to “really focus on myself,” adding, “I’m really glad I did this. “
Harington played the role of Jon Snow in the series, which turned into a cultural obsession, which spanned eight seasons.
It has been widely reported that in May 2019 – that same month Game of Thrones finished – Harington went to a mental health and wellness facility to seek help with “some personal issues”.
“Just when I wanted to get back to work, the pandemic hit,” he said of moving forward. The actor recently filmed an episode of Modern Love, whose second season arrives on Amazon Prime on Friday, just for fun, he said.
“You don’t have to live in this intense place all the time,” Harington said. “Why don’t you do something that relieves the weight?” Why don’t you do something fun? “
Then Harington will play the lead role of Marvel Eternals, in theaters November 5.
