Gabriel Martinelli drops Instagram clue on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad selection against Brentford – .

Gabriel Martinelli may have hinted that he will start Arsenal’s Premier League season opener against Brentford tonight.
In truth, the Brazilian’s chances of doing so have been increased following news of a double whammy for the Gunners and manager Mikel Arteta ahead of kick-off in west London.

Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to miss the game at Brentford Community Stadium tonight, according to Goal, who said illness was the likely reason for the 32-year-old’s absence.

And to make matters worse, The Athletic has announced that Alexandre Lacazette will also not be available for selection.

With Eddie Nketiah also injured, that means Arteta’s attacking options are limited, with Folarin Balogun the only other recognized center-forward in the first team.

However, Martinelli holds the advantage over the Hale End graduate in terms of being named in the starting XI as he can play in the middle and on the left wing as Aubameyang’s replacement.

But is the 20-year-old in line to resolve the Arteta crisis and start against the Bees?

This can be the case if his social media activity is something to do.

Taking to Instagram after Thursday’s final training session at London Colney, the Brazilian has done his best to highlight the big game in West London which could suggest he’s on his way to begin.

As seen via the post above, Martinelli uploaded an image of himself from the aforementioned training session along with a four word message that reads: “Ready for tomorrow’s game. “

Of course, at the time of the post, the Brazilian may have been hinting at making the squad of the day.

But the events of the past 24 hours will surely have changed Arteta’s way of thinking and that could be great news for Martinelli, who only returned to Arsenal at the start of the week after helping Brazil win the gold at the Olympics this summer.

The transfer window is in full swing and things are starting to pick up speed with Edu and Mikel Arteta’s relationship in the UAE.

Interestingly, towards the end of last season Arteta confirmed that the Brazilian will start more regularly for Arsenal.

“Very close,” said the Gunners boss when asked how far he is from a regular place in the squad following the 3-1 victory over London rivals Crystal Palace.

“And he has to keep fighting to be closer and closer. “
