Felipe Vazquez was sentenced to two to four years in prison (with two additional years of probation) by a judge in Westmoreland County, Pa. this morning, according to various reports (including one from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). In May, Vázquez was convicted of fifteen counts – ten counts of child sexual abuse, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, one count of statutory sexual assault, one count of bribing a minor and a count of indecent assault on someone. under 16 – for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
Vázquez has already served 23 months in prison since his arrest in September 2019, which means he could be paroled as early as next month. While today’s conviction is the culmination of the case against him in Pennsylvania, Vázquez also faces pending charges in Florida and Missouri. Florida prosecutors allege he continued to have sex with the victim from Pennsylvania after moving to Florida, as he faces child pornography charges in Missouri after allegedly exchanging sexually explicit messages with the victim during a series of tours in Saint-Louis.

The Pirates placed Vázquez on the shortlist immediately after his arrest. He is expected to officially leave the team at the end of this season, the last guaranteed year of his contract. Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported in May that Vázquez had not been paid since his arrest.
