England vs India third test, second day live: latest score and updates

Anderson was ably helped by the other rhythm bowlers. Craig Overton in his test return took 3-14 on 10.4 overs, Ollie Robinson was excellent for his 2-16 of 10 and Sam Curran picked up a few as well.

A good start with the ball after India won the toss and chose to kick was only part of the job, necessary as it was. The real bonus was that England finished the game unbeaten and with a 42-point lead. Rory Burns and Haseed Hameed have formed a new opening partnership and have reached 120/0 at strains. Hameed had an undefeated 60 in his run in the order and Burns compiled a decent 52. There were few opportunities offered and few danger signs for the forerunners, although Hameed was abandoned in the slides in the 1940s.

What is England’s goal today? Just try to hit well and hit once. At 120/0 they’ll be looking to get past 350 and approach a 200-point lead, but today is another day and it’s not always that easy. Losing one or both Burns or Hameed early on can change the complexion of things. Yet even if they lose all of their wickets to 100 points today, it remains a 150-point lead for England. It is a long way for India from here.
