Two black men were almost thrown from a plane “for blowing” for being ordered to wear shoes.

Passengers on the easyJet flight from Gatwick to Malaga said the crew told them to put on their shoes for take-off as they sat in a row of fire exits.

They say staff were unhappy with their reaction and that armed police were called in to settle the case after the plane returned to the departure gate when it was taxed to the runway on Thursday.

The officers confiscated the men’s passports and unloaded their luggage, but they remained on board after others staged a mutiny.

Videos show passengers telling the men to “sit” and “not get off” while protesting the actions of a flight attendant.

In one of the clips, we hear a policeman say, “I don’t need to intervene because there is no problem. ”

Following customer objections, the captain made an announcement to Tannoy telling them that a replacement crew would be coming on board.

Passengers questioned whether the men’s race played a role in the crew’s reaction and said both men were previously ‘polite’ – but easyJet insists discrimination played no role in the crew’s response.

The footage was filmed by Luke Gayle, 28, who was seated in three rows in front of the two men.

He told MailOnline: “I’m an ambassador for racial justice and I kind of know how unconscious racial bias works. Obviously it’s very difficult in these situations to say it was a racial issue, it’s difficult to prove that, however, was there some kind of unconscious bias in there?

“Because it seems so dramatic to call the police and turn around with a plane with some 160 passengers and be delayed for someone harassing them. I mean as a cabin crew you are certainly trained in how to handle these situations effectively.

“Everyone on the plane was white from my recollection, and they were the only three black passengers. “

EasyJet said the crew was replaced because they exceeded their working hours and not because of passenger objections.

An airline spokesperson said: “EasyJet does not discriminate against any individual. Safety is our top priority and there is no indication that discrimination played a role in the problem on board. ‘
