DaBaby offers second apology after recent homophobic comments – .

LOS ANGELES – Rapper DaBaby issued a fresh apology on Monday as he faced strong backlash after making rude and homophobic remarks at a recent Miami-area music festival.

The Grammy-nominated artist said he was misinformed for his comments on HIV / AIDS in the post, which came a day after the rapper was kicked out of Lollapalooza’s lineup in Chicago.

On Monday, the Governors Ball in New York and Day N Vegas in Las Vegas each announced that the rapper had been removed from their lineups.

Da Baby, real name Jonathan Kirk, has apologized to the LGBTQ + community for his “hurtful and triggering” comments.

“Social media evolves so fast that people want to tear you down before you even have a chance to grow, educate and learn from your mistakes,” he wrote. “As a man who had to fend for himself in very difficult circumstances, to have people I know working publicly against me – knowing that what I needed was to be educated on these topics and to be guided. – was a challenge. “

This is the second time DaBaby has apologized for his remarks at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami.

On stage, the rapper used foul language and asked participants who were not gay men or people not affected by HIV or AIDS to raise the light on their cell phones. He then mistakenly said that the disease “will kill you in two or three weeks.”

DaBaby’s remarks immediately caused a firestorm for the rapper, whose song “Rockstar” was one of the biggest hits of the past year. It was nominated for a Grammy for the record of the year.

In recent days, several artists including Madonna, Questlove and Elton John have denounced his comments. Dua Lipa, who collaborated with DaBaby on the popular remix of her song “Levitating,” said she was “surprised and horrified” by his comments.

DaBaby representatives did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
