Conservative and vaccine-skeptical commentator Alex Berenson has reportedly been suspended permanently from Twitter for breaking the social media platform’s COVID-19 disinformation rules.
Berenson’s account was banned on Saturday after “repeated violations” of rules, Twitter spokesperson told NBC News in a report.
Berenson, a former New York Times reporter, referred to the suspension in an article published on his Substack page Saturday night, accusing his Twitter removal of a recent article criticizing the coronavirus vaccine.
“It doesn’t stop the infection. Or transmission. Don’t think of it as a vaccine, ”the tweet read.
“Think of it – at best – as a therapy with a limited window of effectiveness and a terrible side effect profile that must be dosed BEFORE DISEASE. “
Berenson, in his Substack article, defended the tweet in question as being “absolutely correct.”
In a statement to the Post, the Yale-trained writer and novelist lambasted Twitter’s decision.
“We have come to a dangerous moment. Social media companies that have audiences that outshine others now actively censor journalists at the behest of governments, ”he said.
“I will continue to fight to bring out the truth and I am studying all the legal options. ”
