COVID-19 forces Centennial to cancel Mater Dei game – .

Corona Centennial’s football program became the latest to see its practices interrupted amid an increase in COVID-19 cases in Southern California, and the school announced Thursday that it would not be able to play their season opener against Santa Ana Mater Dei in August. 20 due to limitations in practice.
In a statement released by the Corona-Norco Unified School District, Centennial canceled the game out of caution after two players tested positive for COVID-19.

Damien, Bishop Amat and LA Wilson have all had to take a break from training due to COVID-19 protocols. Lakewood had to move practices off campus following summer school issues. Shadow Hills canceled their participation in a scrum.

With classes starting this month and with COVID-19 testing set to increase, there could be more similar interruptions last spring, when there was a six-week season and many postponements of matches. There’s an 11-week regular season slated for this fall, followed by four weeks of playoffs and a week of bowls.

Mater Dei will need to find another opponent for his match of week zero or begin his August 27 trip to Texas to play Duncanville without playing a game.
