Bukayo Saka has sent a thank you message to Tottenham Hotspur and the club’s fans after the welcome he received during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal.

Saka has returned to the club after spending the summer with England at Euro 2020 and Tottenham fans have put aside North London rivalries to welcome him again.

It was the Arsenal striker’s first appearance since being racially abused after missing the decisive penalty in England’s penalty shootout loss to Italy in the final .

There were no away supporters in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and supporters could be heard loudly waving to him on the pitch.

Spurs fans also unveiled a banner that read “North London stands with Bukayo Saka and all players against racism and discrimination” in an elegant gesture.

Tottenham’s social media team posted a video of Saka being substituted in the second half with the caption: “Rivalries aside. What time it was this afternoon.

Saka saw the clip and posted a response to all the support he had received on his own social media account.

“So much respect for it,” Saka posted on his Instagram Stories. ‘Thank you.’

The match ended in defeat for Saka and Arsenal.

Son Heung-Min was the lone goal scorer, converting at home after Japhet Tanganga took advantage of suspicious Arsenal defense.
