Browns win Day 1 against Giants, Jed Wills Jr. recounts himself – .

BEREA, Ohio – The Browns hosted the Giants at the CrossCountry Mortgage Campus on Thursday for the first day of two joint practices, and the Browns won the lively and quick session.

“I did a good job with the Giants,” coach Kevin Stefanski said after practice. “I really thought it was competitive. The guys have figured out that we are here to do work. I thought both sides, we did it. Very good situational times for special teams, in attack and defense. We’ll log in tomorrow, have another good day of work, take a day off, and then face the Giants on Sunday. “

The two-minute drills at the end of practice summed up the day: Baker Mayfield ended the offense with a TD pass to a leaping Rashard Higgins, and the defensive streak ended with Greg Newsome II knocking out Daniel Jones .

Other stars included Browns tight end David Njoku and Jarvis Landry, who did like Odell Beckham Jr. and did a nifty one-handed grab in the middle.

“He’s a very competitive guy,” Stefanski said of Landry. “He wants to win every exercise. He wants to win when they go out. He wants to win one on one. He wants to win the team period. This sets the tone for our team. We understand that wins and losses come on Sunday, but you can really be here and be competitive and try to win every practice if you want to.

Here are some other things that happened on day 16.

1. Les secondeurs Zion Takitaki and Jacob Phillips Boitet

Joint practices always result in injury, and Thursday’s was no different. Takitaki (hamstring) and Phillips (elbow) both left early and did not return. With Mack Wilson already resting his sore shoulder, the linebacker body quickly grew scarce.

Stefanski did not have an immediate update, but the two players might miss out on Sunday’s second preseason game. Takitaki’s injury marks this camp’s 10th hamstring injury, or what former Browns coach Butch Davis would call the injury of the day.

2. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah gets first team reps

With so many linebackers injured, Owusu-Koramoah got his first first-team reps and made the most of them. He showed his speed and his ability to play. The thing Owusu-Koramoah needs to do is continue to make sure he sees the pitch and knows how to fit into the flow of defense. Injuries from other players could speed up his rise in the depths table.

“He’s definitely playing fast on the pitch,” Stefanski said. “He does plays. We had a few injuries at the start of training so we had to face everyone in training. It’s just the natural progression of things for him.

3. Jedrick Wills Jr. tells about garbage

Wills admitted how difficult it was last year to switch from right tackle in college to left tackle as a rookie last season, even though he was protecting left-hander Tua Tagovailoa’s blind side.

“Looking at it a year ago, I thought I was a trash compared to this year watching a movie,” Wills said. “It’s a whole new game when you turn on the movie this year. “

We expected some trash talk during Giants week, but not like this.

“I really think he’s come a long way,” Stefanski said. “Personally and professionally, I just think he takes care of his business a lot. I noticed. I know his teammates have noticed it too.

4. Odell Beckham Jr. reunites with old friends

Beckham, who spent his first five years with the Giants, missed training but caught up with some of his old buddies. He could dress up on Friday, but he is not expected to play in the second preseason game on Sunday.

5. Who else has rested

The following players were out on Thursday: WR Ja’Marcus Bradley (neck), S Grant Delpit (hamstrings), G Michael Dunn (back), Tony Fields II (foot), DE Myles Garrett (hamstrings), CB AJ Green (neck), S Sheldrick Redwine (ankle), CB MJ Stewart Jr. (hamstrings), CB Denzel Ward (pain). DE Jadeveon Clowney was also inactive, and WR Anthony Schwartz (hamstring) took his leave. For the Giants, running back Saquon Barkley, who is recovering from a torn ACL, hasn’t trained.
