UK pediatricians have expressed concern over the rollout of a ‘chambolic’ vaccine for children, saying doctors were ‘left in the dark’ of the program’s plans and unable to answer patients’ questions.
The Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health said there was still no plan in place to immunize vulnerable children 12 to 15 years old, even though an announcement had been made to expand the vaccine to healthy people of over 16 years old.
Dr Camilla Kingdon, President of RCPCH said: “The roll-out of the immunization program for adults has been incredibly impressive, but for children and young people it has been frankly chaotic. This is the second announcement of vaccinations for children or youth in the past three weeks, but we still haven’t seen detailed plans for rolling out the first.
Kingdon said parents and pediatricians had been “completely ignored as to how and when children and young people would be asked for the vaccine.” She said: “There has been no information for the parents and none for the young people themselves, which creates confusion and, for some families, real concern. “
