Police and firefighters were called to Elton Reservoir, Bury this afternoon after a teenager was reported missing while swimming.
The tank has been cordoned off since police first arrived at the scene around 2:10 p.m.

But police tragically confirmed the discovery of the body of a teenager this evening.
In a Facebook post, GMP Bury North said: “Unfortunately, police responding to reports of concerns about a man in #Elton Reservoir this afternoon recovered a body from the water.
“Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the body is believed to be that of a 17-year-old boy and his family has been notified.
“We don’t think there are any suspicious circumstances.
“Our hearts go out to his loved ones, and we ask that their privacy be respected as they mourn at this terrible time. “
Officers were first called to the scene after reporting that a man was missing while swimming in the water.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing divers at the reservoir.
They said several police cars could be seen parked near the tank with duct tape on most paths around the water, including at Hinds Lane.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) previously said: ‘Just after 2.15pm on Friday (August 13th), firefighters were called in to support GMP in the search for a missing person in the water at Elton Reservoir, Bury.
“Two fire trucks from Bury and Whitefield, the Eccles Water Incident Unit and the Ashton Technical Rescue Unit attended the scene.
“The crews worked hard, supporting GMP in the search, before leaving the scene after about two hours. “
