A woman mistakenly jumped off a bridge without a bungee cord after apparently thinking a call to her boyfriend to jump was for her.

Yecenia Morales, 25, jumped to her death despite the rope not being tied to her ankles and not yet leading the line.

She fell after an instructor told her boyfriend to jump off the structure in Amaga, northern Colombia on Sunday.

It is believed that she misinterpreted this command and fell 150 feet from the viaduct.

Her boyfriend was the first to arrive at the scene and tried to perform CPR, but it was too late. She is believed to have suffered a massive heart attack before she hit the ground.

The unnamed man is said to be receiving medical treatment for the injuries he sustained while trying to reach him and is said to be in shock.

Gustavo Guzmán, mayor of the municipality of Fredonia, told the publication El Tiempo: “She got confused. The signal was for the boyfriend to jump as he was already strapped to the safety gear.

“They just put the harness on her, so she got confused and rushed over. ”

Yecenia was already dead by the time emergency services arrived to treat her.

Yecenia’s brother Andres said she was a happy woman who loved to read and dance and had an entrepreneurial spirit.

“My sister is a girl with all the best values, happy, spontaneous, with virtues that made her love her friends and helped those in need,” he said.

Local authorities have since opened an investigation after claiming that two companies at the site were not authorized to offer services and provide equipment. The companies have not yet been named.
