Tour de France 2021 – “I would have gone home already” – Sir Bradley Wiggins impressed by the resilience of Geraint Thomas – .

Sir Bradley Wiggins was full of admiration for Geraint Thomas as the Ineos Grenadiers rider led the field on the 11th stage of the Tour de France.
Thomas, who had suffered a dislocated shoulder earlier in the race following a terrible fall in Stage 3, persevered and looked close to his best on the Mont Ventoux stage.

With less than 90 km to go, Ineos’ lead saw Thomas leading the pack, potentially creating an attacking opportunity for overall hopeful Richard Carapaz.

Watched by Wiggins, reporting for Eurosport on the back of a motorcycle, the 2018 winner received huge praise from his former teammate.

“I heard a question from a reporter the other day to G asking, ‘Why are you still here in the race?’

“THAT’S WHY he’s still in the race!

“He had some bad luck this race, crashed, a dislocated shoulder that he came back to, that’s the class act he is. He is never afraid to be his teammate again and he does the job on these low slopes of Mont Ventoux.

It really excites me to see Geraint Thomas up front. I love this guy. What a rider.

“Most people would have come down already. We saw Tony Martin give up today, Roglic went home, I would have been home already. “
