Cases have been increasing rapidly since Wales entered the third wave of the virus last month.
The latest Covid data released by Public Health Wales (PHW) shows that there are pockets of very high Covid rates in Wrexham, Conwy and Denbighshire.

This data was first released on Friday July 23. They provide figures for areas with an average population of 7,000 called Super Medium Exit Areas (MSOA).
In practice, this means that there are statistics for regions like Canton in Cardiff, Morriston in Swansea and Porth in Rhondda.
Data shows that there are seven locations in Wales with over 700 cases per 100,000 population and two where the figure exceeds 1,000.

- Rhyl South West, Denbighshire – 1,017.30
- Denbigh West, Denbighshire – 1 013,40
- Prestatyn Central & East, Denbighshire – 879,5
- Newtown Sud, Powys – 816,7
- Rhyl Nord, Denbighshire – 776,3

This map shows the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people for each area over the past seven days. If you can’t use this map, there’s also a table you can use to find your community at the bottom of this article:
It’s really important to keep in mind that this data is very volatile as it covers smaller areas. When an area has a very small population, even a positive case can dramatically increase the number of cases per 100,000. So you need to be careful not to draw too many conclusions directly from the information.
The three areas with the highest infection rates in each local authority
This is based on the weekly infection rates for the previous seven days per 100,000 people. Data is based on the seven-day moving average between July 12 and July 18.
If there are less than three MSOAs listed in a local community, it is because there are not enough places that have more than two cases.
