And fans of the show have shared their feelings by sending in a number of complaints for the antics.
The Colombian singer, 44, appeared on the show to promote her new single Don’t Wait Up – her first musical release in four years.
Presenters Alex Jones and Ronan Keating struggled as the show encountered technical difficulties as they attempted to speak to Waka Waka singer via video link.
In a desperate attempt to speak to the star, Alex said, “Shakira can you hear us now? There is only a minute left of the show… but how does it feel to be back? “
And Shakira managed a very short response – 45 seconds to be precise – before being interrupted by the Welsh presenter at the end of the show.
“I am extremely excited, I feel very inspired,” Shakira said.
“I feel like a horse running wild after spending so long in a box in a stable. Now that it’s actually safer to be in a recording studio with all the collaborators, everything I have is pouring out. “
But Alex had to step in quickly to interrupt the star and said, “Sorry, that’s all we have time for…”
The show has since been criticized on social media for the way it handled the situation.
Many fans called him “disrespectful”, with one saying, “We want Shakira to come back. It was disrespectful. #TheOneShow @BBCOne. “
Another commented, “Sorry, #TheOneShow, but cutting @shakira was incredibly rude and unprofessional.
“If you knew you only had seconds left, you should have cut your losses instead of effectively wiping out an international music star.
“I think a declaration of apology is due. “
“#TheOneShow manages to embarrass itself #shakira,” added a third.
And a fourth wrote: “Omg this is so sad they cut Shakira she only spoke for about 45 seconds #TheOneShow. “
Earlier this month, Ed Sheeran was forced to awkwardly correct Alex after an on-air mistake.
Alex showered the Galway Girl singer, 30, with compliments and stats as he appeared on the show to discuss her song Bad Habits.
But despite her well-meaning compliments, things took a turn for the worse when the singer was forced to correct the presenter on several of her points.
The One Show continues on BBC One weekdays at 7 p.m.
