Toronto homicide detectives are investigating after a teenager was fatally shot in Scarborough on Saturday night.

Just after 6:00 p.m., police received several calls about gunshots heard outside an apartment building at 11 Antrim Crescent, near Kennedy Road and Highway 401.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a person with gunshot wounds.

A teenager was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition, Toronto paramedics said.

Shortly after, the teenager succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital, police said.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed.

The homicide unit has resumed the investigation.

Insp. duty Katherine Stephenson said the teen was on the road with friends when a vehicle approached them and opened fire.

“We don’t know how many occupants were in the vehicle. We believe shots were fired from the vehicle, ”she told reporters at the scene on Saturday evening.

Stephenson said the vehicle was described as a black SUV.

Police believe the victim fled a short distance before collapsing near a basketball court in the area.

“We are reviewing the video near the basketball court as well as neighboring buildings, and I hope this video will piece together exactly what happened,” Stephenson said.

The victim’s friends are being questioned by the police and are cooperating, Stephenson added.

No other information on the suspects has been released.

Police are asking anyone with dash cam footage or other information to contact the police at 416-808-222.
