Target, Walgreens Makes Drastic Changes Due to Increase in San Francisco Flights – .

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) – According to the California Retailer’s Association, three cities in our state are among the top 10 in the country for organized retail crime – Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento. We are already seeing the negative impact as it has in San Francisco with the final closure or early closure of stores. It has become one of the most pressing issues in our city today.

Target has now acknowledged that San Francisco is the only city in America where they have decided to close some stores earlier due to escalating retail crime.

For over a month, we’ve seen a significant and alarming increase in thefts and security incidents at our San Francisco stores, similar to reports from other retailers in the region.

Target isn’t the only store in San Francisco to make changes due to ongoing shoplifting. After 10 p.m., 7-Eleven on Drumm St. in the Financial District can only do business through a metal door. But first you have to ring the bell to let them know you’re outside. This window was installed about two or three months ago because it was not secure. Sometimes they broke the glass on the door, ”explained manager Bobby Singh.

Walgreens has already closed several stores for the same reason and security guards like Kevin Greathouse are urged not to physically engage with these shoplifting.

“It will be legal proceedings, obviously, they don’t want us or anyone else to be hurt while we are here to try to make these apprehensions and to leave the care to the police”, Greathouse said.

He carries a handgun, taser, and pepper spray with him, but luckily he never had to use them. On the other hand, he says shoplifters sometimes threatened him with a knife. “I have no intention of getting stabbed for $ 60 worth of stuff,” he added.

Most of them never get caught. The man shown on cell phone video who allegedly shoplifted and left with a bag full of goods on a bicycle has been arrested.

“The question is whether this person will be held accountable for what they have done and that must also be part of the equation”, insisted the mayor of San Francisco, London Breed.

This is where San Francisco supervisor Ahsha Safai stepped in. He called on both the police department and the district attorney’s office to come up with a coordinated plan to curb organized retail crime and find out why San Francisco is apparently being targeted more than anywhere else.

“These are people who are recruited, organized and reselling these goods and San Francisco suffers,” Safai said.

He gave the police and the prosecutor’s office a week to find an answer.
