Oxford Street’s Jack Fulton store and The Original Factory Shop, in Grosvenor Road, Ripley, have both closed for good despite officials saying they ‘fought to stay’.
The shops are now empty on the main street.
In a note posted on The Original Factory Shop’s door, the staff said they had done their best to keep it open, but the final decision was ultimately “out of our control.”
Derbyshire Live reports that the notice reads: “Dear customers, it is with regret that we have to inform you that today, June 28, will be our last day of trading.
“The decision is out of our control and we fought to stay, but unfortunately it has been confirmed that we are closing now.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal and lovely customers for supporting us over the years. Sincerely, Helen and the Ripley team. “
A spokesperson for The Original Factory Shop said the decision to leave town was not an easy one.
“After trying to come to an agreement with our owners, we have decided not to renew the lease for our Ripley store and that means we now have to close the doors to buyers,” he said.
“We are working closely with colleagues affected by this and will offer them a full package of support, including assistance in finding another job.
“Although we are sad to be leaving Ripley, we will be opening more new stores across the UK over the coming year. “
The old Jack Fulton store has been gutted and has a rental sign above the entrance, though it’s not clear why it closed.
Frozen Value Ltd, who runs Jack Fulton, has been approached for comment.
