Stabbing in London: Man arrested after being “held by the public” – Victim rushed to hospital | United Kingdom

Video footage shared on social media shows a heavy police presence on busy London streets near the entrance to the tube station. One person claimed to have seen a “horrible stabbing”. Police have confirmed that it is not treated as linked to terrorism at present.

Met Police have confirmed a stabbing took place and the victim was taken to a central London hospital where he remains in critical condition.
A 25-year-old man was arrested after being detained by members of the public at the scene.

He was taken to a south London hospital for treatment for a head injury, which was not believed to be life threatening.

An eyewitness tweeted: ‘I just witnessed a horrible stabbing by a poor 60 year old man in Oxford Circus.

“Great light of day, without rhyme or apparent reason.”
“Just another bastard with a knife.”

“Her family probably doesn’t even know about it yet.

“I pray to God that he will come out of this hospital. “

Jambusters tweeted: “A4201 Oxford Circus (All Directions) – Closed due to a police incident.

“Use an alternative route.

“Traffic is moderate during the diversion. Expect some delay. “

Images shared on social media show London buses lined up in all directions as the incident continues.

Metro passengers are also advised to evacuate as the metro is closed.

One person tweeted: “What the hell is going on at Oxford Circus ?!

“I just got rushed out of the metro station due to a reported emergency and police and sirens everywhere!” “

Transport for London has confirmed the station is closed as they respond to a security alert.

However, firefighters said they had nothing to do with the police incident but were investigating a “fire alarm”.
